San Pedro de Atacama is located in the second Region of Chile.
You can find there the driest desert in the world, but I have to say that in the September of 2005 I experienced a different desert, I was in an expedition with 13 more people, at that time I was a guide or trying to be one at least, as it was my first expedition. We wanted to climb the Lascar, all was ok, but it was very windy and hard to get to the top – but I did it!.
When we returned to the base camp the kitchen tent was up in the air, we decided to make a warm soup and go to bed to rest and head back in the morning to the center of San Pedro. However, that night the weather gave us a surprise as we woke up with 2 meter of snow. It was beautiful but scary!!, we stayed there for 7 days and in the end the army had to rescue us. It was the best experience of my life, I realized that nature can give you big surprises and that means that you always have to be prepared for the worst, and always be ready!.
In Chile you can find all types of weather and climates. You can find the driest areas in northern part of the Salar de Atacama, which contain 30% of the world’s lithium reserves. There is also the Licancabur and other beautiful mountains to climb.
San Pedro de Atacama is the archaeological capital of Chile, and has become more important over the years with new finds of great heritage of cultural and scientific value. In the surrounding areas there are many archaeological sites like the atacameños, Pucara of Quitor Zapar Tulor and others. If you are interested in archaeology you can Visit the Museum of San Pedro de Atacama, which has an impressive display if archaeological finds.
The Downtown of San Pedro is very special. You can see an architectural and urban design with a distinct Spanish colonial feel being evident in the old adobe houses and the village church.
The impressive animal fauna includes sheep, goats, llamas, poultry and rabbits and my favorite is the specail Quiltro (Mixed breeds) dog. These you can find in every corner and he can be your best friend there, or in all of Chile!
So start packing your mochila (backpack), and come visit Chile!!!!!!!!!!
People are coming from all over the world to see this beauty. Enjoy the Video.
